Armano P, PhD

Armano has over 5 years of experience in the 3D printing space. His expertise has largely derived from completing his Master’s degree and Ph.D. where he investigated how 3D printing pertains to the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. More specifically, the gap in knowledge that he explored was how computational design could be used to evolve the capabilities of 3D printing as a manufacturing method.

Armano's research has granted him various awards and collaborative opportunities with the Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ), the New Zealand Institute of Building (NZIOB), New Zealand's innovation agency, Callaghan Innovation, and New Zealand's commercialization agency, KiwiNet.

Armano took a very hands-on approach to his research and as a result, has become highly proficient with different 3D printing technologies, processes, and materials. A conventional example of his experience has been with small-scale UpBox 3D printers for quick conceptual FDM prototyping, and a large-scale BigRep ONE 3D printer for more refined and developed FDM prototyping. A more contemporary example is his experience with ABB robotic arms used in conjunction with custom-made plastic and mortar extruders for both FDM and freeform 3D printing.
